What is Cognitive Behavioral Stress Management

Cognitive Behavioral Stress Management (CBSM) is an evidence-based program providing stress management skills, including cognitive restructuring, coping skills, and relaxation training.

 

Cognitive restructuring technique for stress management is extracted from the key components of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which basically emphasizes that how we feel about and react on an event is largely determined by our views.  Through guided discovery, individuals undergoing CBT can re-evaluate their unhelpful cognitions and explore alternative views in perceiving the event. 

 

The technique has been adopted in stress management. Apart from the cognitive technique, other behavioral skills, such as relaxation training, time management, and lifestyle management are also included in the program. 

 

Studies conducted by renowned universities in USA and Europe showed that CBSM is effective in improving the quality of life, emotional well-being and immune function of healthy individuals as well as people with chronic or terminal illnesses.
